Visit the Whitney Plantation, the only museum in Louisiana dedicated solely to the history of slavery. This self-guided audio tour offers a powerful and moving experience, featuring museum exhibits, memorials, and first-person narratives from formerly enslaved individuals.
Explore the historic outbuildings that provide insight into plantation life and see one of the finest examples of Spanish Creole architecture, the Big House (currently under renovation). Learn about the plantation’s evolution from an indigo farm to a sugar plantation in the 1800s.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, this site serves as a place of remembrance and education. En route, pass by other historic plantations along the Mississippi River, where the past still lingers.
